FAQ for Publicly Available Datasets

Q.1 What terms apply to Publicly Available Datasets?
A

The Dataset Terms of Use apply to Publicly Available Datasets. Please read and comply with the Dataset Terms of Use when using a Publicly Available Dataset.

Q.2 Do I need to sign an NDA to use a Publicly Available Dataset?
A

No. You do not need to sign an NDA to use a Publicly Available Dataset. For datasets provided to AIRoA members or for joint research, however, signing an NDA alone does not give you the right to use the dataset. You must also agree to the terms that apply to the relevant dataset. If you would like to use a dataset provided to AIRoA members or for joint research, please review the applicable terms and the conditions set out in those terms.

Q.3 Can I use RAW Data?
A

RAW Data is not included in Publicly Available Datasets and is not covered by the license granted under the Dataset Terms of Use. If you would like to use RAW Data, you will need to enter into a separate agreement with AIRoA. Please contact AIRoA for more information.

Q.4 Can I resell or distribute a Publicly Available Dataset free of charge?
A

No. Users may not redistribute Publicly Available Datasets, whether for a fee or free of charge (Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Dataset Terms of Use). If someone would like to use a Publicly Available Dataset, please direct them to obtain it from AIRoA after agreeing to the applicable terms.

Q.5 Can I distribute a Publicly Available Dataset to customers, group companies, contractors, joint research partners, or other third parties?
A

No. As explained in FAQ 4, users may not redistribute Publicly Available Datasets, even to customers, group companies, contractors, joint research partners, or other third parties (Article 6, Paragraph 1 and Article 5, Paragraph 2 of the Dataset Terms of Use). If another party would like to use a Publicly Available Dataset, please direct them to agree to the Dataset Terms of Use and obtain the Dataset directly from AIRoA.

Q.6 Do I need to provide AIRoA with models or other results created using a Publicly Available Dataset?
A

No. You do not need to provide or return to AIRoA any models you develop, models you fine-tune using a Publicly Available Dataset, data, or other results created using a Publicly Available Dataset (collectively, “Deliverables”).

Q.7 Can I use models or other Deliverables developed using a Publicly Available Dataset for commercial purposes?
A

Yes. In principle, Deliverables created using a Publicly Available Dataset may be used for commercial purposes. However, this does not apply if the Deliverable contains all or part of the original Publicly Available Dataset, or if all or part of the original Publicly Available Dataset can be restored, extracted, searched, or used as a substitute for the Dataset (Article 1, Paragraph 10 and Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Dataset Terms of Use). If the Deliverable is in dataset form, please also see FAQ 8.

Q.8 Can I sell or publicly release a dataset created using a Publicly Available Dataset?
A

No. In principle, a dataset-form Deliverable created using a Publicly Available Dataset may not be disclosed or provided to a third party, whether for a fee or free of charge, without AIRoA’s approval in advance (Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Dataset Terms of Use). If you would like to disclose or provide such a Deliverable to a third party, please contact AIRoA to obtain approval in advance.

FAQ for Publicly Available Models / Source Code

Q.1 What terms apply to Publicly Available Models and Source Code?
A

Publicly Available Models and Source Code are subject to the terms that apply to each individual release. For models, the terms specified for each model, such as the Gemma Terms of Use, may apply depending on the underlying foundation model. For source code, the Apache License 2.0 or other licenses may apply depending on the relevant repository, file, and third-party components.

Q.2 Where can I find the technical requirements and specifications for Publicly Available Models and Source Code?
A

The robot and hardware requirements, operating environment, and other information needed to run the relevant model or source code can generally be found on GitHub. For models, specifications such as the data the model accepts as input and the outputs it produces can be found in the relevant model card and dataset card on Hugging Face.

Q.3 Are the terms for Publicly Available Models and Source Code the same as those for Publicly Available Datasets?
A

No. The applicable terms may differ. Please review the terms that apply to the relevant asset.

Q.4 Can I redistribute or resell Publicly Available Models or Source Code as-is?
A

If the terms or license applicable to the relevant model or source code permit redistribution, you may redistribute it within the scope permitted by those terms or license.

Q.5 Can I commercially use SaaS products, APIs, or other services developed using Publicly Available Models or Source Code?
A

If the terms or license applicable to the relevant model or source code permit commercial use, you may use them commercially within the scope permitted by those terms or license.
